ITS America CVO Committee Targets Vehicle Integration
IV Quarterly
October 1999

This key ITSA committee met recently to consider reorganization into a Task Force structure that can better address the rapid evolution of truck technology.

This article originally appeared in the hard copy edition of the Intelligent Vehicle Quarterly, Fall 1999.

Meeting in conjunction with Demo ’99, the ITS America Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO) Committee considered a committee reorganization,  with a focus on five Task Forces — Commercial Vehicles Information and Systems Network (CVISN), Vehicle Integration, Funding/Innovative Finance, Information Systems, and Safety Management (tracking unsafe carriers).  Dick Landis, Committee Chair, said that the reorganization was in recognition to changes in the CVO arena, such as the emergence of IV systems.

Historically, the committee has focused primarily upon information exchange topics in areas such as electronic credentials, which required extensive coordination between trucking companies and state regulatory organizations.  Vehicle manufacturers and suppliers have been asking for a greater focus on vehicle safety and maintenance issues, which will be addressed within the Vehicle Integration task force under the reorganization.   Thus, this task force provides a committee focus on driver assistance systems, such as those seen at Demo ’99,  for the first time.
