Eugene Farber,
longtime ITS advocate within Ford Motor Company, has announced plans to retire
at the end of this year. Mr. Farber
most recently served as the Chair of the ITS America Safety and Human Factors
Committee. His contributions in
human factors and deployment issues for driver assistance systems have been key
in shaping these emerging products. Mr.
Farber expects to do some consulting after his retirement. Mac Lister, formerly
responsible for Advanced Public Transportation Systems coordination within the
USDOT ITS Joint Program Office, is now residing in the FHWA’s Midwest Resource
Center and tracks IV activities from his post there in Chicago. Toni Wilbur is now the Technical Director for the FHWA Office of Operations R&D. Since the early 90’s, Ms. Wilbur worked in the FHWA Office of Safety and System Applications and pioneered early work and implementation of the ITS program within USDOT. Greg Larson of the New Technology Division within Caltrans research has been named the new chair of ITS America’s Advanced Vehicle Control and Safety Systems committee, succeeding Bill Stevens of Mitretek. Frank Melcherts has
moved on from his post as project manager of Combi-Road to join the Netherlands
CONNEKT organization, which focuses on R&D for automation of goods transport
and automation of passenger transport. Edwin Bastiaansen now
heads up the Automated Guided Vehicles program at the Directorate-General of
Public Works and Water Management Transport Research Center within the Dutch
Ministry of Transportation. He
replaces Han Soeteman, who was promoted into other activities. Dr. Bart van Arem has
been named Head, Department of Traffic, at the Netherlands Organization for
Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Within FHWA research, Dr.
Shahed Rowshan, P.E., has been tapped to head up IVI Special Vehicles
research.
