ITS America's CVO Technical Committee Names Task Force Leaders

Following its last meeting at the Mack Trucks plant in Hagerstown, Maryland, the ITS America CVO Technical Committee finished structuring its task forces ... and named industry leaders to chair four of them.

The task forces and their chairs include:

• Safety Data Systems Integration - Jim York, Zurich Insurance Co., and Jami McClellan, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, co-chairs
• Safety Operations Strategy - Guy Rini, Mack Trucks, chair
• Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) - Mike Akridge, Florida Department of Transportation, and David Black, Lexington Cartage, co-chairs
• Legal Issues - Carmen Daecher, Daecher Consulting Group, Chair; Kevin Holland, American Trucking Association, and Rick Craig, Owner-Operator Independent Driver Association, co-chairs
• Interoperability - John Platt, New York State Thruway Authority, chair

The groups will meet via teleconference over the next few months, and report on their action plans at the fall meeting, planned for November in Jacksonville.

Of interest to the IV community, the Legal Issues Task Force is expected to address liability issues to some degree, although probably not as a first priority.  Expect a significant focus on active safety systems from the Safety Operations Strategy Task Force, which includes participation from Mack Trucks, Volvo Trucks, the National Private Truck Council, and Kate Hartman of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, IVI technical platform manager for commercial vehicles.
