As the current holder of the European Union presidency, Sweden is hosting a European Conference on New Technology for Safe and Environmentally Sound Road Transport, June 6-7 in Trollhattan.

Since Sweden now holds the presidency of the EU (the presidency rotates to a different national member every six months), policymakers there have decided to host a Conference on New Technology for Safe and Environmentally Sound Road Transport, June 6-7 in Trollhattan, Sweden.  The official host is the Swedish Ministry of Industry, Employment, and Communications and the Swedish National Road Administration.  This move reflects the country’s leadership position in road safety, particularly in the area of Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA).

According to the conference invitation, the meeting is aimed at participants from both government and the auto industry, and will consist of a review of technologies and approaches that promise to contribute to greater road safety and a better environment.  The Swedes are hoping that the meeting will help speed up implementation of measures addressing these areas.  All of the technology to be presented is considered viable for use within Europe within 3-5 years.

"Concrete solutions" will be demonstrated in the areas of:

  • Vehicles of the Future

  • Infrastructure of the Future

  • Safe and Environment Friendly Behavior in the Future

Organizers are targeting specially-invited public sector decision makers, but the conference is also open to "relevant interest groups" on a fee basis.
