Sweden
Calls EU Meeting to Address Deployment of New Safety Technology |

Since
Sweden now holds the presidency of the EU (the presidency rotates to a different
national member every six months), policymakers there have decided to host a Conference
on New Technology for Safe and Environmentally Sound Road Transport, June
6-7 in Trollhattan, Sweden. The
official host is the Swedish Ministry of Industry, Employment, and
Communications and the Swedish National Road Administration.
This move reflects the country’s leadership position in road safety,
particularly in the area of Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA). According to the
conference invitation, the meeting is aimed at participants from both government
and the auto industry, and will consist of a review of technologies and
approaches that promise to contribute to greater road safety and a better
environment. The Swedes are hoping
that the meeting will help speed up implementation of measures addressing these
areas. All of the technology to be
presented is considered viable for use within Europe within 3-5 years. "Concrete solutions" will be demonstrated in the areas of:

specially-invited public sector decision makers, but the conference is also open
