The International Task Force on Vehicle-Highway Automation held its fourth annual meeting on December 1, 2000 in conjunction with Smart Cruise 21 / Demo 2000 in Tsukuba City, Japan.

The purpose of this invitation-only meeting was to provide a forum for information exchange and discussion among researchers, government officials, and representatives from private sector companies regarding ongoing programs to develop advanced driving assistance systems and automated highway systems.  The task force takes a unique, "big picture" approach.  Given that other symposia regularly address the technological underpinnings of such systems, the Task Force focuses on ways in which the government authorities, the infrastructure, and the vehicle industry can collaborate or cooperate to most effectively offer these services to drivers.

These proceedings provide a full report on the meeting.
