Mercedes'
Maybach Introduces "Traffic Jam Assist" |

Top of the line for Mercedes-Benz is the Maybach, a new model which is now in on-road testing and moving fast towards production. Mercedes expects the car will be on sale in late 2002. Look for new brake-by-wire technology to be fully integrated. A function called Sensotronic Brake Control uses an electrohydraulic high-pressure system to implement new functions called "Traffic Jam Assist" and "Drive Away Assist." The brake control system calculates the optimum brake pressure for each wheel and electronically provides wheel-specific commands to implement the response. Driver braking plus sensor inputs are all parameters in the algorithm used to compute braking action. Traffic Jam Assist brakes the vehicle automatically in 'stop-n-go' traffic when the driver lifts his/her foot off the accelerator. The
Sensatronic Brake Control functions may also be available this year on the new
