ParkShuttle II Premiers in Monaco

The ParkShuttle II is scheduled to debut during the ‘Salon International des Véhicules Électriques et Hybrides de Monte-Carlo 2003,’ evoking memories of the first-generation ParkShuttle: the first automated road vehicle to be put into public service, in the mid-1990s.

During the  ‘Salon International des Véhicules Électriques et Hybrides de Monte-Carlo 2003’ the new ParkShuttle II will be displayed for the first time.  The first-generation ParkShuttle was the first automated road vehicle to be put into public service, back in the mid-nineties.

The ParkShuttle II is an automated mini-van developed and supplied by 2getthere in collaboration with technology partner Frog Navigation Systems which is responsible for the vehicle's navigation and control systems.  The vehicle is developed based on the team's experiences with the first generation ParkShuttle at Long Term Parking Lot P3 at Schiphol Airport and at the business park Rivium in the city of Capelle aan den Ijssel, both in the Netherlands.  (See IVsource archives for related articles.)

Besides Frog and 2getthere -- which markets and develops short range Automated People Mover systems for personal and group transportation (typically in applications such as business and industrial parks, theme parks and resorts) -- project partners in the development of the ParkShuttle II are Spijkstaal (chassis and propulsion), Duvedec Europe (design and packaging), TNO (safety and certification) and operator Connexxion.

The transportation concept – automated vehicles available on request, operating on a basic infrastructure – will remain the same as with the previous ParkShuttle.  However, the philosophy underlying the technical development has been changed in some significant ways.  The result, claim the developers, is a more reliable, more comfortable, and even safer vehicle.

ParkShuttle II shown in Monaco is the first of six new vehicles for the extended Rivium application.  A demonstration is the centerpiece of the exhibition and all visitors will be able to ride the vehicle.  Monaco was chosen for the world premiere because of the high volume of visitors expected, and, notably, because of the interest of the nearby City of Antibes in the concept.  Antibes is one of the demo cities of the European subsidy program Cybermove in which 2getthere participates.
