Following up on the success of the ITS World Congress there in 2001, organizers are seeking to catalyze increased investment in IV research and deployment within the country.  Following is a snip from their promotional flyer:

Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitors, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Night Vision, Assisted Steering, Pre-Crash Safety Systems, and Stop and Go control were all the dreams of researchers only ten years ago.  Today, these systems are available for purchase in vehicles around the world and are being trialed here in Australia.  Automotive radar, laser, and vision systems, in addition to the latest in active safety, driver assistance and fatigue detection systems will all significantly contribute to the required reduction in road trauma, saving not only lives, but time and money.

In Europe, Japan and North America trials of emerging autonomous (driverless) vehicle control continues, and locally, autonomous control is being used for trucks in mines and ports.

Smart Demo is an event where these drive-by-wire safety, security and efficiency technologies can be trialed.  Previous Smart Demos including those hosted by IEEE in Madrid, Dearborn-USA, Demo2000 Tsukuba, Japan, and IV2002 in Versailles, France, have attracted a diverse audience of automotive managers, engineers and buyers, government policy makers, road safety leaders, police and emergency services, telematics providers and many others to witness these advances and importantly get in and drive state of the art vehicles for themselves to prepare for the future.

Smart Demo 2003, located at Eastern Creek Raceway, New South Wales will attract these key local industry and government delegates and international OEM figures to Australia.

Smart Demo 2003 is being promoted broadly throughout Australia and internationally and will have enhanced exposure as it is being held in the week following the Sydney Motor Show.
