Jack Ference of the USDOT National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has notified IVsource that the third ACAS Field Operational Test Annual Report is now available on NHTSA's website, covering program accomplishments in 2002.
The document contains information on system integration
and subsystems such as forward vision, brake control, throttle control,
driver-vehicle interface, data fusion, tracking and identification, and threat
assessment. Significant work was
accomplished during 2002 in enhancing the radar algorithm performance to reduce
false alarms, particularly in the area of bridge rejection. The ACAS vehicles, with adaptive cruise control and
forward collision warning, are on the road now with everyday drivers.
Extensive data is being collected to assess the effectiveness of the
systems. The annual report (DOT HS 809 600) can be downloaded at: www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-12/HS809600.pdf [Top] ... contact Jack Ference of NHTSA at jference@nhtsa.dot.gov. [Top]
