The TNO Traffic and Transport institute has announced an event for Friday, 21 November, entitled ‘Intelligent Vehicles – From Concept to Confidence.’  The purpose of the event is to unveil VEHIL, their new hardware-in-the-loop testing facility for intelligent vehicle systems – a facility unique worldwide.  The event will be held at the VEHIL Laboratory, Helmond, The Netherlands, and is scheduled to follow immediately after the ITS World Congress in Madrid.

TNO is the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, comprising over 5,000 scientists and engineers addressing a broad range of societal issues.  TNO Traffic and Transport combines the expertise and experience of more than 400 researchers at 7 independent TNO institutes .

Information from the event announcement follows.

Vehicles continue to gain intelligence. Advanced Driver Assistance (ADA) systems gradually acquire new functions. The growing complexity and increasing software content of new generations of intelligent systems demand a new approach to testing. TNO has identified this need and developed VEHIL (Vehicle Hardware-In-the-Loop): a patented testing facility dedicated to testing intelligent vehicles. To celebrate the opening of this new VEHIL test facility, TNO is organising an international symposium about the future expansion of intelligent vehicles in motorway and urban traffic:  Intelligent Vehicles – from Concept to Confidence.

Persons interested and active in intelligent vehicles are invited to this symposium and to the opening of the VEHIL testing facility, which is the first one of its kind in the world.  The symposium will last from 10.30h to 14.50h, and will be followed by the official opening at 15.15h. Speakers from various backgrounds will present their views on what is needed to make a broad application of intelligent vehicle systems possible and useful.
