NHTSA Releases IVBSS Test Reports

San Diego Seeking Bids for Automated Buses
IV Source A longtime player in the vehicle automation arena, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has just released a $5M request for proposals to implement a “Vehicle Assistance and Automation System” for converting a narrow freeway shoulder to a limited access lane for use by transit buses. The idea is to use “state-of-the-art vehicle guidance and lane-assist technology” so that automated steering keeps the bus within its lane at full speed. Continental and Opel Moving To “Always On” in New Field Trials

PReVENT Final Report Published
IV Source As probably the most significant publicly-funded active safety R&D project this decade, the Euorpean PReVENT Integrated Project addressed the full range of next generation collision avoidance -- including forward collision mitigation, lane change assist, lane keeping, curve speed warning, pedestrian detection, intersection collision avoidance, and cooperative warnings via wireless communications.

The 200 page final report is now available at the PReVENT website.

EuroFOT Launched to Test Active Safety on the Roads
IV Source Supported by the European Commission 7th Framework Programme of Information Society Technologies, the euroFOT integrated project has officially been launched. Led by Ford, the project involves 28 partners, including major European vehicle manufacturers as well as leading automotive technology suppliers and research institutes, which will work together over a period of 40 months.
